Iranian calligrapher ranks 1st in Turkey

Iranian calligrapher Ehsan Kazemi grabbed the first title at the 6th international calligraphy festival which was held in Turkey.

The event was held in categories of Nastaʿlīq, Nastaʿlīq Jeli, Thuluth and Jeli Thuluth.

In Thuluth category, Kazemi defeated rivals from Turkey and Indonesia.

Thuluth is a script variety of Islamic calligraphy invented by Ibn Muqlah Shirazi. The straight angular forms of Kufic were replaced in the new script by curved and oblique lines. In Thuluth, one-third of each letter slopes, from which the name comes.
